About us United Congregational Church Chatty – Established 1992
Our origin UCC Chatty is the result of the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa’s Church Extension Project . Visionaries such as the late Reverends Samuel
Arends , Doreen Carmichael , and Jacob Alberts were the drivers of this project to merge the three Bloemendal wards of Audrey Renecke, Bethelsdorp, and Bethesda churches.
The conversations started as early as 1987. It was an inclusive conversation with representatives from the three wards participating in the discussions. UCC Chatty was formally established at a church service in October 1992.
We were known as the Trust Church. We held services and activities in the church hall for the first few years.
In November 1996, we dedicated our church building to the Lord after the men in our congregation under the leadership of the
late Abraham Adriaanse and Pat du Plessis used their skills to build our leadership After the amalgamation we were privileged to be led by able men of God such as the late Phillip Goliath and elders George Madatt and Jerry Hurling as chairmen,the
late Lodewyk Gallant as our first church secretary, elder Pieter Bantom as assistant secretary and the late elder Samuel White as our first treasurer. The Reverend Damon Labans was our first acting minister followed
by Rev Bruce Theron.
In December 1997, we welcomed our first full-time minister Rev. Adam Berkatt, and his wife Mrs Barbara Berkatt. Training and development Over the years we have had training and capacity-building programmes. We are also a church that is open to house ministerial interns two of whom were ordained to the Word and Sacrament here. They are Rev. Ralph Geswint and the late Rev Deon Juries . The current ministerial intern is Mr. Donovan Jacobs.

I have been the minister of this congregation since December 1997.
I have always firmly believed that I am just a representative of Christ in this world. As a representative of Christ it is my task to teach and form people so
that they can become what God intended them to be. I also believe that God, through His Holy Spirit calls every person to do something in His kingdom.
I have seen it as my task to help people to discern God’s voice so that they
can hear God’s voice and eventually do that thing for which they are being called.
Your call is your unique contribution to the church and the society. I have always tried to model Christ to the people that I am serving so that
they in turn can become models of Christ to the world.
There were many people here over the years that had a tremendous influence on my ministry. For that I will always be grateful. After 25 years in this congregation it is an absolute privilege to be able to look back and see things
in perspective.
I would be forever grateful for the many people that God allowed to cross my path. That made the ministry here worthwhile. I am also extremely grateful for the different leadership teams that I worked with over
the years. I have learned when to be present and when to move into the background.
Teamwork was the hallmark of every executive that I worked with.
As I think of where this congregation is now, the following Bible verse comes
to mind: Matthew 9:37-38 He said to His disciples, “The harvest truly is plentiful, but the labourers are few.
Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out labourers into His harvest.” It is good to excited about the

The women ministry were they gather together to serve and assst with in church making sure womens voice's are heard sharing their beliefs and prayers.
